101 in 1001

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as New Year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

What a wonderful list! For learning to sew, do you actually have a machine? I would suggest starting with something really simple, like a pillow or a rice heat bag. In other words, something without buttons or zippers!
Here are 10 movies from that list that I'd recommend, if you haven't seen them:
1.Casablanca
2.Citizen Kane
3.The Godfather
4.Invasion of the Body Snatchers (yes, the old version--although I like the new one, too!)
5.Meet Me In St. Louis (Judy Garland is in it...you can't go wrong, LOL!)
6. Singin' in the Rain (considered by some to be the best movie musical ever)
7. E.T.
8. The Fly (really gruesome, but great if you love sci-fi)
9. Pinocchio (1940)
10. Psycho

And one that is not there, for some reason, but still one of the best movies ever: "All About Eve," with Bette Davis!
Good luck and have fun with your list.

I think this is a great idea - your list. I can help with one! #23. Make a backup disk for your computer. Click on the following...
1. StartMenu
2. Programs
3. Support Tools
4. System Tools
5. Backup

You will need a couple blank DVD-RW or a couple CD-R. It walks you through the steps.

Very easy to do. It's a good idea to do it once a month, if you use your computer a lot. Also, it might be wise to keep two copies and/or keep a copy outside of your house...just in case.

Mom2fur (love that name!)- I do have a sewing machine. I made Marty buy me one for Mothers Day 5 years ago. It sat in the box until Christian's OM team needed it, 2 years later. LOL I have used it twice, and each time I was sure the thing was going to take my finger off!

Thanks for the movie suggestions! I am so bad about that. I haven't seen any of the 'classics'... except for Invasion of the Body Snatchers. When I was 5 my mom left the babysitter some money to take us to see a movie (probably a Muppets one) and she took us to see Invasion of the Body Snatchers instead. Scared me to death!

mom_of2boys (love that name too!)-

Thanks for the tip! Can you believe that I have never backed up my computer? Sheesh... when I first got the internet (way back in 1992) I never used a virus scanner. It was probably a year before I heard someone say 'anyone who is on the internet without a virus scanner is an idiot!' Of course I am. lol

Wow! I'm impressed. What a great list! Can't wait to see your progress! They say the best way to accomplish your goals is to write them down. I bet you get to the end of the 1001 days and find you've done these and more!

Don't worry...the best of us sew over our fingers at least once, LOL! (I studied fashion design for a semester in college, and they had guards around the needles--I wonder why home machines don't have them?) Just keep your thumb out of the way of the needle, LOL!

Christine,
So far I seem to be doing pretty good, but we will see how enthusiastic I am in a year. lol

Mom2fur,
I would love a finger guard! I am petrified of this machine! Mine is simple, simple... my grandma's Viking had all of the bells and whistles. I don't know how she used the thing!

Mom2fur said...

Just remember that, the harder you push on the presser foot, the faster it will go. So just...be easy!
I had a 'bells-and-whistles' machine many years ago. It was a Janome Memory Craft 8000, with an embroidery attachment that actually let you make your own designs. Besides that, there were 179 different stitches on it. It was a wonderful machine to have when my kids were young and I did TONS of sewing. Now I have a much simpler machine with maybe 20 stitches. And I'm very content with it. Being as my youngest is
17, I don't need the little embroidered duckies now, LOL!

Oh I soooo wanted a machine with the embroidery attachment! My grandma's machine had all of these really cool stitches. You pressed a button and it would sew stitches that looked like a row of ducks!
I used to want a serger, but finally came to my senses. It is silly to have something that nice when I couldn't even use the plain machine I have!
